"It's only been 8 days. Already, 1.3 million viewers have had to 'ask for help' from ghosts to get justice. Hopefully, this is just in the movie. In the real world, we don't have to, right?" wrote Joko Anwar on his official Instagram account on Friday (April 24, 2026).
Ghost in the Cell highlights the lives of prisoners in Labuhan Angsana Prison who have to survive amid oppression. In addition to facing arbitrary prison officials, the prisoners are also caught in internal conflicts such as hostility and violence among cellmates.
The situation becomes even more gripping when a new prisoner enters the prison. He is known as a former journalist who was involved in a terrible criminal case.
His presence actually triggers the emergence of evil entities that target people with negative auras or overflowing anger.
