COVID-19 statistics in Europe this week still depict a concerning situation compared to the previous week, due to the continued increase in the number of deaths. This week, 19 countries recorded an increase in deaths, while 12 other countries recorded fewer deaths than the previous week.
In terms of percentage, the top five countries with the highest increase in deaths are Lithuania, Ireland, Austria, Spain, and Belgium. The total deaths in these five countries as of Saturday, October 8, 2022, amounted to 417, with a weekly growth exceeding 65.22 percent.
Lithuania recorded the highest increase in deaths in Europe, with weekly growth reaching 185.71 percent. In this country, Worldometer recorded 20 deaths, a 17.65 percent increase compared to the previous day.
Ireland follows with a weekly death growth of 100 percent. Daily death figures in this country decreased by 20% compared to the previous day, recording five deaths.
Next, Austria with 66 deaths (up 83.33%), Spain with 289 deaths (up 70%), and Belgium with a 65.22% increase in deaths.
Looking at the number of reported deaths, the highest number of deaths in the last seven days in Europe occurred in Russia with 722 deaths. Death reports in this country increased by 0.56% compared to the previous week. Following this, the highest number of deaths in the UK was recorded at 490 (up 43.27%), Germany at 471 (down 22.28%), Italy at 326 (up 21.64%), and France at 310 (up 37.78%).
Total deaths in Europe over the last seven days were recorded at 3,496. This accounts for 39.74 percent of global deaths caused by the COVID-19 virus, totaling 8,798 deaths. The number of deaths in Europe increased compared to the previous seven-day accumulation of 3,147 deaths.
