Called Inflation Contributors, Here Are Chili Prices Throughout July 2019

Bank Indonesia (BI) Governor Perry Warjiyo stated that inflation for the fourth week of July 2019 was 0.23% month-on-month or 3.23% year-on-year. The biggest contributor to inflation was chili peppers (rawit), with a contribution of 0.12%. The price increase was due to a harvest season that deviated from schedule. In addition, increased consumer demand also influenced the movement of chili pepper prices.

Based on food price data, the average price of chili peppers continued to rise throughout July 2019. Only on July 26, 2019, did the price of chili peppers fall by 0.15% from Rp 64,900/kg to Rp 64,800/kg.

Meanwhile, the price of chili peppers increased by 40.71% from July 1-25, 2019. The highest average price of chili peppers sold in traditional markets was found in the Riau Islands at Rp 85,900/kg. The price of chili peppers in DKI Jakarta and West Papua at Rp 85,000/kg was the second highest after the Riau Islands.
