Most of Indonesia's cocoa plantations will be located in Sulawesi in 2024.

According to the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), in 2024, the area of cocoa plantations in Indonesia reached 1.37 million hectares (ha) and was spread across all provinces except Jakarta.

The BPS reported that this 1.37 million ha consisted of 1.36 million ha (99.59%) of people's cocoa plantations, 5,364 ha (0.39%) of large private plantations, and 228 ha (0.02%) of large state-owned plantations.

By province, the largest cocoa plantation area was in Central Sulawesi Province, reaching 267,320 ha or 19.55% of the national total area.

The following are the 5 provinces with the largest cocoa plantation areas in Indonesia in 2024:

• Central Sulawesi: 19.55%
• Southeast Sulawesi: 15%
• South Sulawesi: 13.12%
• West Sulawesi: 10.31%
• Aceh: 6.45%
• Other provinces: 35.57%

According to BPS, the cocoa area in Indonesia in 2024 produced 617,110 tons of dry cocoa beans. Central Sulawesi Province contributed the most with 125,200 tons or 20.29% of national total production.

Based on the status of cultivation, people's plantations produced 615,720 tons of dry cocoa beans, while large private and large state-owned plantations produced 1,380 tons and 11.38 tons, respectively.
