Consumption of broiler eggs is predicted to reach 1.72 million tons in 2021.

Eggs are one of the main sources of protein for Indonesian people. Currently, commercial chicken eggs meet 65% of national egg needs; the remainder is supplied by eggs from native chickens, ducks, and quail. In 2016, commercial chicken egg production reached 1.48 million tons, while national consumption was 1.4 million tons, resulting in a national surplus of 86,000 tons.

This year, production is predicted to reach 1.58 million tons, while consumption is estimated at 1.52 million tons, resulting in a surplus of 55,000 tons. For information, consumption of commercial chicken eggs from 1987 to 2017 increased by an average of 3.57% per year. In 1987, consumption of commercial chicken eggs was only 2.55 kg/capita/year and increased to 6.53 kg/capita/year.

The commercial chicken population during the period 2013-2017 is predicted to have increased by an average of 3.28% per year, and in the next five years, it is predicted to increase by an average of 5.54%. Meanwhile, the production of commercial chicken eggs over five years (2018-2021) is predicted to increase by an average of 4.87% per year, while consumption is expected to increase by an average of 4.18% per year.
