Based on data from the Ministry of Trade, chili prices in Indonesia surged during October-November 2023.
In November 2023, the national average price of red chilies reached Rp79,793 per kilogram (kg). This price increased by 42.7% compared to the previous month (month-on-month/mom), setting a new record high for the year.
However, the increase in red chili prices in November 2023 was slightly lower than in July 2022 and March 2021.
Besides red chilies, price increases also occurred for curly red chilies and large red chilies.
In November 2023, the average price of curly red chilies jumped 43.4% (mom) to Rp64,887 per kg, and the average price of large red chilies increased by 39.8% (mom) to Rp60,303 per kg.
These prices were the highest since the beginning of the year but remained lower than in July 2022, as shown in the graph.
Chili prices vary significantly at the provincial level. In some regions, chili prices are much higher than the national average.
