Java Island has the highest density of motor vehicles in Indonesia. Data from the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) shows that the ratio of road length to the number of vehicles in Java reaches 510.96. This means that every one kilometer (km) of road in Java serves more than 500 motor vehicles. This number is far above the national ratio, which only reaches 216.37.
Meanwhile, the province with the highest density of motor vehicles is DKI Jakarta, where one km of road serves more than 2,000 motor vehicles. Jakarta has 7,094 km of roads and 14.73 million motor vehicles. This high ratio contributes to Jakarta's frequent traffic congestion. This is followed by Yogyakarta Special Region with a road length to vehicle ratio of 784.85, and Bali at 503.37. The province with the lowest ratio is North Maluku, at only 11.04. This means that one km of road serves only 11 motor vehicles.

Although this ratio does not fully reflect actual road density because it does not account for the different weights of vehicle types, it does provide information on the level of road usage in a region. The types of vehicles considered are passenger cars, buses, trucks, and motorcycles. Road length includes kabupaten, provincial, and national roads, and does not include toll roads.
