91.04% of Households in Riau Use PLN Electricity

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded that 91.04% of households in Riau used electricity from PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (Persero) or PLN in 2020. This figure is higher than the number of households using electricity from other sources.

Specifically, 7.79% of households in Riau used non-PLN electricity. Meanwhile, 1.17% of households in the province did not use electricity.

By regency/city, the highest percentage of households using electricity from PLN was in Dumai City, at 100%. This was followed by Pekanbaru City and Bengkalis Regency at 99.93% and 98.27%, respectively.

Meanwhile, the lowest percentage of households using electricity from PLN was in Indragiri Hilir Regency, at 73.08%. Above it were Pelalawan Regency and Meranti Islands Regency with percentages of 75.48% and 78.35%, respectively.

There were 1.81 million PLN electricity customers in Riau in 2020. This number increased by 6.2% compared to the previous year, which had 1.7 million customers.

Installed electricity capacity in Riau was 28,404 MW. Electricity production in Bumi Lancang Kuning was 2.36 million MWh. Meanwhile, electricity sold amounted to 3.43 million MWh.
