Cargo Handling Activity at Tanjung Priok Port Decreased in 2020

According to a report by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the amount of goods transported by sea vessels through Tanjung Priok Port reached 40.5 million tons in 2020. This figure is down 8.33% from the previous year.

The details comprise 24.2 million tons of goods unloaded (59.8%) and 16.3 million tons of goods loaded (40.2%) at Tanjung Priok Port.

Of the 24.2 million tons of goods unloaded, 10.2 million tons originated from inter-island transport and 14 million tons from international transport. Meanwhile, of the total 16.3 million tons of goods loaded, 11.3 million tons originated from inter-island transport and 5 million tons from international transport.

The amount of goods transported through Tanjung Priok Port decreased by 3.85% in 2017 and increased by 4.16% in 2018. Then, the amount of goods transported decreased by 6.38% in 2019 and decreased again by 8.33% in 2020.

The number of ships berthing at Tanjung Priok Port was recorded at 11,876 vessels. This figure is down 12.6% compared to the previous year. This is due to the emergence of Covid-19, which caused port activity to significantly decrease compared to previous years.

For information, DKI Jakarta has 22 seaports; 12 ports are located in North Jakarta and the remaining 10 are in the Thousand Islands. Of these 22 ports, only Tanjung Priok Port serves the transportation of passengers and goods, both nationally and internationally.
