Indonesia's Electricity Tariffs Remain Competitive Compared to Other ASEAN Countries

Indonesia's electricity tariffs remain competitive compared to those in other ASEAN member countries. According to Digital Energy Asia as of July 2018, Indonesia had the lowest electricity tariff for large-scale business consumers at 8.36 US cents/kWh (exchange rate Rp 13,342/US$). The same trend is observed for medium-scale business users; Indonesia and Thailand had the lowest tariffs at 11 US cents/kWh.

For large-scale industrial users, Indonesia's tariff is slightly higher than Vietnam's at 7.47 US cents/kWh. For medium-scale industrial users, Indonesia and Thailand's tariffs are 8.36 US cents/kWh, cheaper than Singapore (13.05 US cents/kWh) and the Philippines (11.69 US cents/kWh).

Indonesia's non-subsidized household electricity tariff is cheaper than Thailand's at 12.41 US cents/kWh, Singapore's at 19.97 US cents/kWh, the Philippines' at 18.67 US cents/kWh, and Vietnam's at 10.59 US cents/kWh. However, Indonesia's non-subsidized tariff is higher than Malaysia's at 10 US cents/kWh. For information, Indonesia's electricity tariff has not increased since 2018.
