The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) revealed that city gas networks (jargas) had reached 799,000 homes in 2021, exceeding the target of 795,000.
The development of city gas networks aims to diversify energy sources, reduce subsidies, and provide clean and affordable energy. Gas networks also support the conversion program from kerosene to LPG to accelerate the reduction of petroleum use.
Last year's gas network development was carried out in three phases across 21 regencies/cities. Construction focused on cities or areas close to natural gas sources and possessing existing natural gas transmission networks.
The reach of city gas networks increased from 200,000 homes in 2014 to 799,000 household connections in 2021. The largest increase occurred in 2020, with an additional 135,000 homes connected.
In 2022, the government targeted an additional 40,000 homes to be connected to the gas network. This means the total number of homes connected to the gas network is targeted to reach 839,000.
