Truck sales in 2017 showed signs of improvement. Data from the Indonesian Automotive Manufacturers Association (Gaikindo) indicates that sales of pick-up/trucks grew by 16.2% in 2017, reaching 217,792 units compared to 187,426 units the previous year. Massive infrastructure development and the resurgence of the mining industry were key drivers of this growth in truck sales last year.
Trucks weighing 10-24 tons recorded the highest growth last year, reaching 91.4% with 20,801 units sold compared to the previous year. Conversely, the lowest increase was seen in pick-up trucks weighing less than 5 tons, with a growth of only 6.4% to 128,422 units.
In the first three months of 2018, truck sales again grew by more than 15%, reaching 59,577 units compared to the same period last year. Vehicles weighing over 24 tons recorded the highest increase, at 67.64%, reaching 6,977 units. This was followed by vehicles weighing 10-24 tons, which saw a 38.4% increase to 1,744 units.
