Electric vehicles were the primary mode of transportation used during the 43rd ASEAN Summit, held at the Jakarta Convention Center from September 5-7, 2023.
According to the official website of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf), 608 electric vehicles from five models were used to serve state guests.
These five electric vehicle models were loaned from four Authorized Dealers (APM): Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID), Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), SGMW Motors Indonesia (Wuling Motors), and BMW Indonesia.
The first model, the BMW i7, comprised 36 units and was used to transport VIP guests, including heads of state.
BMW Indonesia also provided training to the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres) on driving the German sedan.
"We provided special training to the Paspampres on how to drive it, including learning about the special features embedded in the BMW i7," said Jodie O'tania, Corporate Communications Department of BMW Indonesia, on Saturday (2/9/2023).
Next, there were two electric vehicle models loaned by Hyundai: the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.
Specifically, 272 Ioniq 5 units served as protocol, security, rescue, and operational vehicles for the national committee. Meanwhile, 74 Ioniq 6 units were used as official vehicles for the delegates' spouses.
Then there were 76 Toyota BZ4X units, used as official vehicles for high-ranking officials at the ministerial level participating in the 2023 ASEAN Summit.
Finally, 150 Wuling AIR EV units were loaned for operational use. These compact electric vehicles were adorned with the 2023 ASEAN Summit logo combined with a Betawi batik motif.
"The special patterned design was inspired by batik, one of the cultural products of the Betawi people, the indigenous people of Jakarta," explained Brian Gomgom, Public Relations Manager of Wuling Motors, in a statement on Sunday (2/9/2023).
