The battery industry continues to grow in line with the massive global adoption of electric vehicles.
According to CleanTechnica data, the total batteries for electric vehicles used worldwide reached 290,330 megawatt-hours (MWh) in the first half of 2023. This figure increased by 58.24% compared to the first half of last year.
Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Limited (CATL) is the world's largest supplier of electric vehicle batteries. The use of electric batteries from the Chinese company reached 92,840 MWh in the first half of 2023.
Next, LG Energy Solutions is in second place. The use of electric vehicle batteries from the South Korean company was recorded at 57,080 MWh during the first half of this year.
Then, BYD is in third position with electric vehicle battery usage of 49,380 MWh in January-June 2023.
CleanTechnica predicts that the global electric vehicle market will grow by 40%-50% year-on-year.
"The (electric vehicle) battery market is expected to grow even faster, with a possible growth rate of more than 50% in the next few years," said CleanTechnica on its website, Tuesday (19/9/2023).
