The Jakarta Metro Police (Polda Metro Jaya) and the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI Jakarta) will implement emission testing tickets to curb worsening air pollution. A trial of emission testing tickets has been in effect since Saturday, August 26, 2023, according to *Kompas.com*.
Director of Traffic at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Latif Usman, stated that the highest possible fines will be issued to drivers whose vehicles fail the emission test. "For motorcycles, the fine is Rp250,000, and for four-wheeled vehicles, it's Rp500,000 – the maximum fine," said Latif at the DKI Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday, August 23, 2023.
He added that the ticketing mechanism will be the same as general traffic violations, based on Articles 285 and 286 of Law Number 22 of 2009 concerning Traffic and Road Transportation.
The Jakarta Environmental Agency (DLH DKI Jakarta) will conduct the vehicle emission tests on-site. "Because they have the equipment. We will assist with ticketing; the equipment will be provided by the Environmental Agency, and we will cooperate," he explained.
Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Asep Kuswanto, hopes that the mass implementation of emission testing tickets will be effective from September 1, 2023, for the next three months. "We expect that from September to October and November, emission testing tickets will be issued in collaboration with the Transportation Agency, the Indonesian Military Police (POM TNI), and the Polda Metro Jaya," explained Asep in an online press conference reported by *Kompas.com* on Thursday, August 24, 2023.
This policy is being aggressively implemented by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to address the poor air quality in the capital city.
