The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that the number of train passengers departing in April 2024 reached 34.84 million. This figure includes train passengers on Java and Sumatra islands, including airport trains.
This number increased by 6.31% month-to-month (mtm) compared to March 2024, which recorded 32.78 million passengers.
The majority of train passengers in April 2024 were Jabodetabek commuter passengers, namely 22.5 million people or 73.31% of the total national train passengers.
Although significant, the number of Jabodetabek commuter passengers decreased by 1.80% (mtm), while passengers in non-Jabodetabek Java areas increased by 39.81% (mtm).
Meanwhile, the number of train passengers in Sumatra increased by 28.20% (mtm), and airport train passengers increased by 21.79% (mtm).
Cumulatively, the number of train passengers from January to April 2024 totaled 133.7 million, a 16.43% increase compared to the same period last year (year-on-year/yoy).
The cumulative increase in passenger numbers occurred in the Jabodetabek area by 16.03% (yoy), non-Jabodetabek Java by 16.57% (yoy), and airport trains by 81.93% (yoy). However, the number of passengers in Sumatra decreased by 9.40% year-on-year (yoy).
