PT Hutama Karya (Persero) predicts that traffic on the Trans-Sumatra Toll Road (JJTS) during the 2023/2024 Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holiday will reach 1.23 million vehicles. This volume is estimated to surge by 24% from the normal traffic volume of 990,000 vehicles.
The peak of the homeward bound traffic is expected to begin two days before Christmas, on December 23, 2023. The return flow is predicted to occur on December 30, 2023.
In line with this, Hutama Karya's Executive Vice President and Secretary, Tjahjo Purnomo, stated that the company has prepared 2,576 personnel, 289 standby units, and 9 rest areas spread across the toll road sections.
Facilities provided include various food and beverage tenants, toilets, workshops, and fuel availability. In addition, Hutama Karya provides 64 mobile reader or top-up units to speed up toll payment transactions.
The company will also implement a holding system at rest areas on the Terbanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung (Terpeka) and Permain toll roads if traffic becomes increasingly congested.
Tjahjo said that Hutama Karya is also coordinating with the police, TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces), the Transportation Agency, BNPB (National Disaster Management Agency), provincial/district governments, and other relevant parties to ensure the smooth running of the Nataru holiday.
"So that toll road users can experience safe and comfortable toll roads during the upcoming Nataru holiday," said Tjahjo in his official statement on Tuesday (November 28, 2023).
