2017, Hino Remains the Leading Bus Sales Brand

Hino maintained its lead in the bus market share during the first four months of 2017. Gaikindo data recorded Hino bus sales from January to April 2017 reaching 463 units, a 19.7 percent increase from the same period the previous year. These sales represent 57 percent of total domestic bus sales. Mercedes-Benz followed with sales reaching 253 units during January-April 2017, a 46.8 percent increase from the same period the previous year.

Meanwhile, Scania bus sales from January to April 2017 reached 124 units, an 80 percent increase from the previous year's period. Overall, bus sales grew by 30.4 percent to 840 units compared to 644 units the previous year.

Government infrastructure development, particularly toll road construction, significantly contributed to the increased demand for passenger transportation vehicles. Improved economic conditions, increased infrastructure development, the proliferation of tourist buses, and anticipation of the 2017 Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr) homecoming season encouraged passenger bus service providers to increase their bus purchases in 2017.
