A report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that the number of motor vehicles in DKI Jakarta has continued to increase over the past five years.
In 2022, the number of motor vehicles in the capital city reached 26.37 million units. This figure represents a 4.39% increase year-on-year (YoY) from the previous year's 25.26 million units.
In 2020, the number of motor vehicles in DKI Jakarta was 24.26 million units. This figure increased from 23.86 million units in 2019 and 22.49 million units in 2018.
By type, in 2022, the majority of motor vehicles in Jakarta were motorcycles. There were 17.3 million motorcycles in DKI Jakarta, equivalent to 65.6% of the total number of motor vehicles in the city.
Furthermore, in 2022, there were 3.76 million passenger cars, 748,390 trucks, and 37,180 buses in DKI Jakarta.
The increase in the number of motor vehicles in the capital city indicates a strengthening of the automotive industry and consumer purchasing power, even amidst the current COVID-19 pandemic.
However, the rapid growth of motor vehicles can lead to increased air pollution and traffic congestion in the capital city. Therefore, it is important for the government and the public to address the growth in the number of motor vehicles in DKI Jakarta.
