The Ministry of Transportation has approved hundreds of extra flights to facilitate public mobility during the 2017 Christmas and New Year holidays. Approximately 177 additional flights, covering 133 domestic and 44 international routes, are ready to serve air transportation users. These additional flights have been granted to seven airlines.
Based on data from the Recapitulation of Additional Flight Plans for Christmas 2016 and New Year 2017, Sriwijaya Air received the most permits with 43 additional flights. Meanwhile, Garuda Indonesia will add 33 flights. The most frequently requested additional routes include Jakarta-Kualanamu (round trip), Jakarta-Denpasar (round trip), Sorong-Timika (round trip), Surabaya-Balikpapan (round trip), and Jakarta-Yogyakarta (round trip).
The Director General of Air Transportation at the Ministry of Transportation, Suprasetyo, as reported by *tempo.co*, stated that his office anticipates a 9 percent increase in air transportation users. Therefore, during this year-end holiday period, the government has prepared a total of 14 airlines with 498 aircraft, with a carrying capacity of 8.1 million domestic passengers and 1.8 million international passengers.
