Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the transportation and warehousing sector at current prices (ADHB) amounted to Rp208.52 trillion in the first quarter of 2022.
Meanwhile, based on the GDP at constant 2010 prices (ADHK), the transportation and warehousing sector grew by 15.79% in the first quarter of 2022 compared to the same quarter of the previous year (year on year/yoy).
The receding transmission of Covid-19, which occurred along with the government's massive vaccination program, increased public mobility. This has resulted in an increase in passengers using various modes of transportation, including land, air, and sea crossings.
The air transportation industry led GDP growth in the transportation sector, growing by 53.2% (yoy) in the first quarter of 2022, indicating a recovery from the previous year.
Then, in the first quarter of 2022, rail transport grew by 43.2% (yoy), river, lake, and ferry transport grew by 41.9% (yoy).
Similarly, warehousing and supporting transportation services grew by 40.94% (yoy), and land transport grew by 6.87% (yoy).
However, sea transport still contracted in the first quarter of this year, declining by 0.11% (yoy).
