Based on a report by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the number of train passengers in Indonesia in May 2024 reached 35.15 million.
This figure includes train passengers on Java and Sumatra islands, including airport trains.
The number of national train passengers in May 2024 increased by 0.89% compared to April 2024 (month-to-month/mtm).
The majority of passengers in May 2024 were Jabodetabek commuter train users, namely 27.1 million people or 77% of the total national train passengers. This number increased by 5.93% (mtm).
Meanwhile, the number of train passengers in non-Jabodetabek Java decreased by 13.78% (mtm) to 6.9 million people, on Sumatra Island decreased by 7.83% (mtm) to 538,000 people, and airport trains decreased by 6.77% (mtm) to 649,000 people.
Cumulatively, the number of national train passengers from January to May 2024 reached 168.8 million, an increase of 15.89% compared to the same period last year (cumulative-to-cumulative/c-t-c).
Cumulative increases occurred in the Jabodetabek region by 15.62% (ctc), non-Jabodetabek Java by 15.57% (ctc), and airport trains by 73.88% (ctc). Meanwhile, the number of passengers in Sumatra decreased by 11.06% (ctc).
