Ministry of Transportation Prepares 722 Free Homecoming Buses for 2024: Here Are the Destination Cities

The Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), through the Directorate General of Land Transportation, is preparing 722 buses for the free 2024 homecoming program.

Registration for the Kemenhub's free 2024 Lebaran homecoming program is open from March 6th to April 3rd, 2024, or until the quota is full. People can register through the MitraDarat application, which can be downloaded from the AppStore or PlayStore.

Of the 722 buses available, Kemenhub is opening a quota of 30,088 free homecoming passengers, divided into 24,368 passengers for the outbound journey and 5,720 passengers for the return journey.

Director General of Land Transportation, Hendro Sugianto, stated that this year Kemenhub is also providing a quota for free motorcycle transportation using trucks for 900 motorcycles.

"A quota of 450 (motorcycles) is provided for the outbound journey with 15 trucks, and 450 (motorcycles) for the return journey, also transported with 15 trucks. So there will be 30 trucks in total," said Hendro in a written statement on Tuesday (March 5th, 2024).

This year's free homecoming program covers 33 cities spread across West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta Special Region, East Java, as well as Kalimantan and Sumatra.

The most numerous destinations for the free homecoming program are in Central Java and Yogyakarta Special Region, namely 19 cities including Solo, Tegal, Pekalongan, Semarang, Demak, Jepara, Pati, Blora, Klaten, Wonogiri, Purwokerto, Cilacap, Wonosobo, Kebumen, Magelang, Sragen, and Yogyakarta.

Next, East Java has 5 destination cities: Madiun, Surabaya, Tuban, Malang, and Tulungagung.

Following that, Sumatra has four destination cities: Lampung, Palembang, Bengkulu, and Padang. West Java follows with Garut, Tasikmalaya, and Cirebon as destinations.

Finally, in Kalimantan, there are two destination cities for the free homecoming buses: Banjarmasin and Pangkalan Bun.

"Meanwhile, for the return journey's origin cities, there are 9 cities: Solo, Cirebon, Madiun, Surabaya, Semarang, Purwokerto, Wonogiri, Yogyakarta, and Palembang," said Hendro.

Outbound passengers will depart from 6 terminals: Pulogebang Jakarta, Pondok Cabe South Tangerang, and Jatijajar Depok on April 6th, 2024.

Departures from Kampung Rambutan Jakarta, Poris Plawad Tangerang, and W.A Gara Central Kalimantan will follow on April 7th, 2024.

"We hope that with the Kemenhub's Free Homecoming program, it can prevent people from making the homecoming journey by motorcycle, especially over long distances," said Hendro.
