According to research by Katadata Insight Center (KIC), the global sales trend of electric vehicles (EVs) is projected to continue to increase in the coming decade.
This research stems from the International Energy Agency's (IEA) projection in its Net Zero Emissions (NZE) 2050 scenario, which indicates that global EV sales are estimated to reach 70.4 million units by 2030.
This prediction represents a significant increase of up to 306% compared to sales in 2024, which reached 17.3 million units.
Global EV sales are projected to continue growing until 2035, reaching 103.7 million units, an increase of 47% compared to the 2030 projection.
KIC explained that Indonesia is among the countries with significant EV growth in recent years.
Government incentives, such as purchase subsidies and luxury goods sales tax (PPnBM), have encouraged consumer interest in switching to EVs while also attracting global manufacturers to market their products in Indonesia.
According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), wholesale sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in Indonesia reached over 43.1 thousand units in 2024.
KIC calculated that this figure shows a fourfold increase compared to 2022, which saw 10.3 thousand units.
"Meanwhile, during the January to April 2025 period, BEV sales were recorded at 23.9 thousand units, or double the total sales throughout 2023," KIC stated.
