Sales of electric vehicles (EVs) globally have increased rapidly in recent years.
According to data compiled by Katadata Insight Center (KIC), during the 2014-2020 period, global EV sales volume ranged from 0.3 million to 3 million units per year, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 46.8%.
Then, from 2021-2024, sales volume rose to a range of 6 million to 17 million units per year, with a CAGR of 50.5%.
"The EV trend is projected to continue increasing in the coming decade," said KIC in its report titled Nickel in the Electric Vehicle Battery Industry Ecosystem (September 2025).
In addition to reviewing global EV trends, the report also discusses Indonesia's strategic position as the owner of the world's largest nickel reserves and a key player in the global electric vehicle supply chain.
