PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, and its subsidiaries served 299.75 million passengers from January to August 2024.
During this period, the highest number of passengers came from Commuter Rail (KRL) and Local Trains managed by KAI Commuter, totaling 244.45 million passengers.
Long-distance trains transported 29.92 million passengers, the Jabodebek LRT 12.7 million passengers, and local trains 4.65 million passengers.
Furthermore, the Whoosh High-Speed Rail served 4.24 million passengers, KAI Bandara (Airport Train) 3.69 million passengers, and KAI Wisata (Tourism Train) 95,300 passengers.
"Overall, KAI's performance from January to August 2024 for long-distance and local trains increased by 9.4% (year-on-year/yoy) from 31,595,487 passengers to 34,571,135 passengers," said KAI VP of Public Relations Anne Purba in a statement on Monday (9/9/2024).
Other train services that experienced an increase were KAI Commuter, which serves KRL and local train passengers, showing a 15.03% (yoy) increase. Similarly, KAI Wisata passengers grew by 73.01% (yoy).
Anne stated that this increase in passenger volume was supported by improved on-time performance of trains, both for departures and arrivals.
In August 2024, the on-time departure rate reached 99.85%, higher than the same period last year at 99.76%.
The on-time arrival rate last month was 97.87%, up from 95.46% in August 2023.
Anne stated that KAI will continue to improve on-time performance across all train lines to enhance customer service and maintain travel safety.
"With this continuous improvement in quality, we hope that trains will remain the primary choice for people traveling," she said.
