China's leading electric vehicle producer, BYD Automotive, announced its intention to enter the Indonesian automotive market in the first half of 2024. BYD plans to partner with local players to develop the electric vehicle ecosystem in Indonesia.
"Currently, many Chinese automotive players are also entering the Indonesian market. However, this is actually good for Indonesian consumers, who now have many choices from various products and segments. Indonesian consumers can simply choose," said BYD Asia-Pacific Auto Sales Division General Manager Liu Xueliang, as reported by *Katadata* on Thursday, December 21, 2023.
Liu is optimistic that BYD products will be well-received due to Indonesia's strong automotive growth. Furthermore, he believes that BYD's electric vehicles can compete with internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.
