BYD Automotive became the world's top-selling electric vehicle (EV) producer by the end of 2023, surpassing Tesla.
Data from the clean technology website CleanTechnica shows that the Chinese manufacturer sold 2,556,504 electric vehicles from January to November 2023, the highest among all manufacturers.
Trailing BYD, Tesla sold 1,613,465 electric vehicles during the same period.
According to CleanTechnica, BYD and Tesla accounted for over one-third of the global electric vehicle market, which totaled 12,117,205 units from January to November 2023.
This means BYD contributed 21.1% of total global electric vehicle sales, while Tesla contributed 13.3%.
Significantly behind these two manufacturers, BMW ranked third, selling 439,868 electric vehicles from the beginning of the year to November 2023.
Following BMW, the Chinese manufacturer GAC Aion recorded electric vehicle sales of 439,501 units. Volkswagen followed with 426,792 electric vehicle sales.
