PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero), or KAI, has recorded a surge in long-distance train passengers in the lead-up to the February 14, 2024 election voting period.
According to KAI data from Monday morning (February 12, 2024), 108,218 long-distance train tickets had been sold.
This represents a 20% increase compared to the usual average of 90,000 passengers. The number of tickets is expected to continue rising as sales are still ongoing.
KAI Vice President of Public Relations, Joni Martinus, explained that passengers are traveling to various destinations, including Surabaya, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Bandung, Jakarta, Solo, and other cities.
To accommodate passenger travel during the period of February 12-18, 2024, KAI has prepared 1,503 long-distance trains, averaging 214 trips per day.
Regarding security, Joni explained that personnel will ensure passenger comfort and prevent disruptions. KAI is also anticipating potential clashes between supporters traveling on the same trains.
"Security measures at stations are implemented according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and utilize metal detectors and inspection mirrors at certain stations," Joni stated in his official statement on Monday (February 12, 2024).
Meanwhile, railway line security is being optimized through mobile patrols along the railway lines, and measures are in place to prevent objects being thrown at trains.
"These enhanced security efforts are part of KAI's commitment to ensuring the safety and comfort of all passengers during the voting period," Joni added.
