Build Your Dreams (BYD) officially enters the Indonesian electric vehicle market. According to *Katadata*, the Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer launched three products simultaneously: the BYD SEAL, BYD Atto 3, and BYD Dolphin in Jakarta on Thursday, January 18, 2024.
President Director of PT BYD Motor Indonesia, Eagle Zhao, stated that the arrival of the BYD Dolphin, BYD Atto 3, and BYD Seal will open doors for BYD as part of the Indonesian electric vehicle industry. He said that these three electric cars possess distinctive advantages with high quality, a BYD standard, and have received a 5-star Euro NCAP rating.
So, what is the global sales trend for these Chinese electric vehicles?
According to the company's annual report, BYD Group sold 1.8 million electric vehicles globally throughout 2022.
The majority, 1.79 million units, were passenger vehicles, including sports and multi-purpose vehicles. This figure represents a 151.83% increase year-on-year (YoY).
Meanwhile, 5,830 units of BYD's commercial electric vehicles were sold in 2022, a 26% year-on-year decrease.
The trend shows that global sales of BYD Group's passenger electric vehicles have increased over the past four years. Sales peaked in 2022 and were lowest in 2020.
Conversely, sales of BYD Group's commercial electric vehicles have decreased during the same period. Sales of this type of electric vehicle peaked in 2021 and were lowest in 2022.
