The delayed update of the electronic ticketing system for the Commuter Line electric train (KRL) caused long queues at several stations earlier this week. This system update and maintenance is necessary to maintain the performance of the KRL passenger ticketing system, which serves approximately 400,000 to 1 million passengers per day.
According to PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) data, the number of KRL passengers in 2017 reached 315.8 million, a 12.55% increase from the previous year. This amounts to approximately 868,000 passengers per day, highlighting the potential impact of any problems with this public transportation mode. For this year, KCI targets a passenger increase to 320 million, or an average of 879,000 passengers per day.
Based on routes, in 2017 the KRL served the most passengers on the Depok-Bogor line, accounting for 69.95% of the total passengers that year. This was followed by the Bekasi-Cikarang line at 13.48%, the Serpong-Rangkasbitung line at 11.87%, and the Tangerang line at 4.72% of total KRL passengers.
