Indonesia's trade with Russia has fluctuated over the past six years.
In the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic, 2020, trade between the two countries reached its lowest level, as shown in the graph.
According to data from the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag), Indonesia's trade with the country led by President Vladimir Putin amounted to US$2.75 billion in 2021.
This figure grew by 42.25% compared to 2020, which was only US$1.93 billion, and is the highest achievement in recent years.
Indonesia's exports to Russia grew by 53.42% to US$1.49 billion throughout 2021 compared to the previous year. All were non-oil and gas commodities.
Meanwhile, Indonesia's imports from Russia grew by 30.89% to US$1.25 billion throughout 2021 from the previous year. This comprised oil and gas imports worth US$44.87 million and non-oil and gas imports reaching US$1.21 billion.
Thus, Indonesia's trade balance with Russia recorded a surplus of US$239.79 million in 2021. This achievement is better than in 2020, where Indonesia experienced a deficit of US$340.38 million.
