According to a report by Indonesia's Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia's trade balance recorded a surplus of US$5.09 billion in June 2022.
This figure increased by 75.51% month-on-month (mom) compared to the surplus of US$2.90 billion in May 2022.
Year-on-year (yoy), the June 2022 surplus also rose by 285.60% compared to June 2021, which stood at US$1.32 billion.
BPS recorded that the June 2022 surplus was obtained from higher non-oil and gas trade transactions, namely US$7.23 billion. However, this value was reduced by a trade deficit in the oil and gas sector of US$2.14 billion.
Total export value in June 2022 was recorded at US$26.09 billion, up 21.30% (mom) from the previous month. This increase was driven by a 22.71% (mom) increase in non-oil and gas exports to US$24.55 billion. Oil and gas exports increased by 2.45% (mom) to US$1.53 billion.
Meanwhile, total import value increased by 12.87% (mom) to US$21 billion. This comprised a 13.60% (mom) increase in non-oil and gas imports to US$17.33 billion, and a 9.52% (mom) increase in oil and gas imports to US$3.67 billion.
By sector, the non-oil and gas trade balance recorded a surplus of US$7.22 billion in June 2022. This surplus increased by 52% (mom) compared to May 2022, which amounted to US$4.75 billion.
Compared to the previous year, the non-oil and gas surplus increased by 203.36% (yoy) compared to June 2021, which was valued at US$2.38 billion.
Meanwhile, the oil and gas trade balance remained in deficit at US$2.14 billion in June 2022. This deficit increased by 15.67% (mom) compared to May 2022, which amounted to US$1.85 billion.
The oil and gas deficit also increased year-on-year by 103.80% (yoy) compared to June 2021, which was valued at US$1.05 billion.
