The Indonesian government plans to distribute E5 biofuel, a blend of 95% gasoline and 5% bioethanol.

The most potential raw material for bioethanol production to boost output is sugarcane molasses.

According to research from the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), now merged into an organization under the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), every 1 ton of sugarcane molasses can produce 250 liters of bioethanol.

This sugarcane molasses conversion volume is the highest compared to other bioethanol raw materials, as shown in the graph.

In line with this research, President Jokowi launched the "Sugarcane Bioethanol for Energy Resilience" program in November 2022. The target is for this program to increase fuel-grade bioethanol production to 1.2 million kiloliters per year by 2030.
