Coordinating Minister for Maritime and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan stated that Indonesia still heavily relies on textile imports.
"We saw that textile imports are still very high; our textile industry could die," Luhut said at the second phase of the Business Matching event held by the Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs at the Smesco Indonesia area, Jakarta, Monday (11/4).
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), in the last 5 years, Indonesia has been flooded with an average of 2.25 million tons of textile products annually.
Indonesia's textile import volume also increased by 21.11% to 2.2 million tons in 2021 compared to the previous year.

12. Total: 2.2 million tons
Over the past 5 years, the value of Indonesia's textile imports has averaged US$8.96 billion per year.
In 2021, the value of Indonesia's textile imports also increased by 30.91% to US$9.43 billion compared to the previous year.
