Indonesia's Salted Fish Exports Reach US$93.17 Million: Where Are They Exported To?

As a maritime nation with extensive waters, Indonesia possesses abundant marine biodiversity, such as fish. The fish catch from these waters is commonly processed by coastal communities, ranging from salted fish for local consumption to commodities for export.

Indonesia's Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded national salted fish exports of 8.96 million kg from January to November 2021. This volume represents a 36.54% decrease compared to the same period the previous year, which totaled 14.12 million kg.

Meanwhile, the value of salted fish exports from January to November 2021 was reported at US$ 93.17 million. This value increased by 0.69% compared to the same period the previous year, which amounted to US$ 92.53 million.

Considering export destinations, Japan was the largest importer of Indonesian salted fish, with a volume of 3.3 million kg (US$ 22.17 million). China followed with a volume of 1.2 million kg (US$ 20.52 million).

Indonesia also exported salted fish to Sri Lanka, with a volume of 1.43 million kg (US$ 3.63 million). Exports to Malaysia and Hong Kong amounted to 705,300 kg (US$ 1.67 million) and 701,600 kg (US$ 13.75 million), respectively.
