According to Euromonitor International data, in 2021, Indonesia had 38,323 minimarkets or convenience stores.
This figure is significantly higher than in 2017, when there were only 31,488 outlets.

Euromonitor also noted that minimarkets were the [modern retail format with the highest sales in Indonesia](https://databoks.katadata.co.id/datapublish/2022/07/12/indomaret-pimpin-penjualan-ritel-makanan-modern-di-indonesia), with total sales of US$12.86 billion throughout 2021.
This figure is higher than the sales of other retail formats, such as supermarkets and hypermarkets.
The high sales of minimarkets have encouraged several supermarket and hypermarket companies to create smaller outlets.
For example, Supra Boga Lestari, the company behind Farmer's Market and Ranch Market, has launched Day2Day to compete in the minimarket market.
