April 2024 Indonesian Imports Reach US$16 Billion, a Monthly Decrease

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's import value reached US$16.06 billion in April 2024.

This represents a 10.60% month-to-month (mtm) decrease compared to March 2024, when imports totaled US$17.96 billion.

"Month-to-month, both oil and gas and non-oil and gas import values decreased," said BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Pudji Ismartini in a press conference on Wednesday (15/5/2024).

In April 2024, non-oil and gas imports fell 10.51% (mtm) to US$13.09 billion.

BPS explained that 6 out of 10 main categories of non-oil and gas imports weakened. Imports of optical, photographic, and cinematographic instruments saw the sharpest decline, falling 28.99% (mtm) to US$268.3 million.

Cereals imports decreased by 27.23% (mtm) to US$643 million, and iron and steel imports fell by 23.02% (mtm) to US$662.4 million.

Oil and gas imports decreased by 11.01% (mtm) to US$2.96 billion in April 2024.

This decrease was due to a 14.93% (mtm) reduction in refined oil imports to US$2.12 billion. However, crude oil imports increased by 0.79% (mtm) to US$836.1 million.

Cumulatively, the import value for the January-April 2024 period reached US$70.95 billion, a 0.93% increase compared to the January-April period of the previous year (cumulative-to-cumulative/ctc), which recorded US$70.29 billion.

BPS detailed that the decrease in import value during the first four months of this year was due to a 0.05% (ctc) decrease in non-oil and gas imports to US$58.99 billion. However, oil and gas imports increased by 6.05% (ctc) to US$11.96 billion.
