The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's trade balance surplus reached US$3.45 billion in June 2023.

This surplus stemmed from the difference between export value, which reached US$20.6 billion, and a lower import value of US$17.15 billion.

BPS Chief Secretary Atqo Mardiyanto stated that Indonesia recorded a non-oil and gas trade surplus with several countries.

"The three largest contributors to the surplus are India, the United States, and the Philippines," said Atqo in an online press conference on Monday (July 17, 2023).

Indonesia experienced a trade surplus with India of US$1.24 billion, followed by the United States at US$1.18 billion, and the Philippines at US$827.2 million.

"The surplus with India was driven by commodities such as animal fats and oils, mineral fuels, precious metals, and jewelry or gemstones," said Atqo.

On the other hand, Indonesia also experienced a trade deficit with several countries. The three largest contributors to the trade deficit were Australia at US$529.6 million, Thailand at US$350.4 million, and Germany at US$308.1 million.

"The deepest deficit experienced with Australia was driven by several commodities such as cereals, mineral fuels, sugar, and confectionery," said Atqo.
