The war between Israel and Hamas in Palestine, which erupted in October 2023, continues unabated.
Six months into the conflict, the situation has become even more volatile with Iran's entry into the war.
According to an *Al Jazeera* report, an airstrike on the Iranian consulate in Syria occurred on April 1, 2024, killing at least 11 people, including an Iranian military commander.
The Iranian government blamed Israel for the attack and retaliated by launching hundreds of missiles into Israeli territory on April 14, 2024.
"This is the first time Iran has directly attacked Israel after nearly half a century of being bitter enemies," said Maziar Motamedi, an *Al Jazeera* journalist based in Iran (April 14, 2024).
Over the past decade, Iran has received the most weapons from Russia and China.
According to data compiled by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), during the period 2010-2022, at least 10 publicly reported arms delivery contracts from Russia to Iran were recorded.
There were 7 arms delivery contracts from China, and 1 from Belarus.
Each contract contained different types and quantities of weaponry.
In 2020 alone, for example, there were 3 arms delivery contracts from Russia to Iran totaling approximately 13,000 missiles.
Besides missiles, Russia also supplied Iran with air defense systems, military radar, and combat vehicles.
Recorded arms delivery contracts from China included missiles and combat vehicles. Belarus supplied military radar.
SIPRI compiled this data from publicly accessible sources, such as official government statements, media reports, international agency reports, and financial reports, press releases, or other official publications from global arms companies.
