Basic Metal Industry Exports Increase by 53.18%, with Iron and Steel Contributing the Most

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reports that the volume of basic metal industry exports reached 12.37 million tons during the January-August 2022 period. This volume increased by 53.18% compared to the same period the previous year, which was only 10.42 million tons.

Iron/steel was the largest export commodity in the basic metal industry, reaching 9.96 million tons during the January-August 2022 period. This volume comprised 80.55% of total basic metal industry exports. The volume increased by 9.94% compared to the same period the previous year.

The next largest export volume of basic metal industry commodities was non-ferrous base metals, reaching 1.49 million tons during the first eight months of the year. This was followed by nickel at 457,820 tons, copper at 231,510 tons, and aluminum at 160,960 tons.

Following these were tin at 51,200 tons, zinc at 10,810 tons, and precious base metals at 1,200 tons.

The basic metal exports that recorded the highest growth during the January-August 2022 period compared to January-August 2021 are as follows:
