Indonesia Becomes the World's Largest Pear Importer in 2024/2025

Based on data from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the global import volume of fresh pears reached 1.79 million metric tons in the 2024/2025 marketing year.

During this period, Indonesia became the largest importer of pears in the world, with 213 thousand metric tons. Russia followed, importing 193 thousand metric tons. 

"Indonesia's and Russia's imports are forecast to increase by

20% and 9% respectively due to strong shipments from China," the USDA wrote in its report Fresh Apples, Grapes, and Pears: World Markets and Trade. 

Below is a list of the top 10 countries by global pear import volume for the 2024/2025 marketing year:

1. Indonesia: 213 thousand metric tons
2. Russia: 193 thousand metric tons
3. European Union: 171 thousand metric tons
4. Brazil: 170 thousand metric tons
5. Vietnam: 141 thousand metric tons
6. United Kingdom: 97 thousand metric tons
7. United States: 92 thousand metric tons
8. Hong Kong: 79 thousand metric tons
9. Kazakhstan: 68 thousand metric tons
10. Mexico: 67 thousand metric tons.

As a note, the 2024/2025 marketing year data from USDA globally refers to the 12-month period from June 2024 to July 2025, including for Indonesia.

However, Brazil has a different trade pattern, where the 2024/2025 season refers to the period from January to December 2025.
