According to data from the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP), Indonesian shrimp exports have fluctuated monthly since the beginning of 2025.
In January 2025, the value was US$95.76 million with a weight of 11.52 million kilograms (kg) or 11,520 tons.
The value and weight of exports experienced consecutive declines in March and April. The value decreased to US$85.44 million and the weight to 9.79 million kg or 9,790 tons in April 2025.
The latest data in May 2025 shows a significant increase in both value and weight. The value was recorded at US$126.67 million and the volume at 14.46 million kg or 14,460 tons.
The interim accumulation for the first five months of 2025 reached US$508.78 million and a weight of 59,720 tons.
Indonesian Fisheries Trade 2024
In its release, the KKP reported that in 2024 the trade balance for fisheries commodities experienced a surplus, increasing by 9.1% compared to the previous year.
According to the Director General of Strengthening the Competitiveness of Marine and Fisheries Products (PDS), Tornanda Syaifullah, this condition is inseparable from the increase in export value during 2024, which reached US$5.95 billion or increased by 5.7% compared to the previous year, and a decrease in import value of 19.8% compared to 2023.
Tornanda explained that one of Indonesia's main export commodities is shrimp, with a value of US$1.68 billion or 28.2% of Indonesia's total fisheries exports.
The United States was the destination country for fisheries exports during 2024, with a value of US$1.90 billion or equivalent to 32.0% of the total value of Indonesian fisheries exports.
