2016, Pharmaceutical Industry Production Shows Highest Growth

The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) recorded that the growth of large and small-scale manufacturing industries both increased in 2016. Cumulatively, the growth of large and medium-scale manufacturing industries in 2016 increased by 4 percent compared to 2015. This increase was mainly driven by the rise in production of the pharmaceutical industry, chemical and traditional medicine products.

On a large scale, the pharmaceutical industry showed the highest growth, namely 8.01 percent. This was followed by the leather, leather goods, and footwear industry, which also increased by 7.62 percent. Meanwhile, the furniture industry recorded the smallest growth, at 0.57 percent.

In the fourth quarter of 2016, the production of large and medium-scale manufacturing industries grew by 2.06 percent compared to the same quarter of the previous year. The increase in food production (8.29 percent), the chemical and chemical material industry (7.07 percent), and the leather and footwear industry (5.58 percent) were the drivers of the increase in the production of large and medium-scale manufacturing industries in the last quarter of 2016.
