Daihatsu has overtaken Toyota as the leading exporter of Indonesian cars. Gaikindo data shows that Daihatsu's car exports from January to July 2018 reached 59,638 units, a 25.66% increase compared to the same period the previous year. This achievement gives the Japanese automaker a 43.35% share of the national car export market.
Meanwhile, Toyota's car exports during the January-July period this year decreased by 19.57% to 55,157 units compared to the same period last year. This figure represents 40% of national car exports. In total, Daihatsu and Toyota control more than 83% of the national car export market share.
For information, the total volume of Indonesian car exports in the first seven months of this year grew by 2.37% to 136,561 units compared to the previous 134,372 units. Similarly, car imports increased by 10.7% to 59,115 units. Meanwhile, wholesale sales of four-wheeled vehicles increased by 7.2% to 661,093 units.
