Indonesia's Imported Foreign Products are Mostly Raw Materials

Raw materials and supporting materials have consistently been Indonesia's most imported goods. From 2016 to 2020, the proportion of imported raw materials ranged from 72.91% to 75.1% of total imports.

The proportion of capital goods from total imports was recorded at approximately 16% from 2016 to 2020. Meanwhile, the proportion of consumer goods from total imports over the past five years ranged from 8.9% to 10.35%.

Raw material imports increased from US$100.9 billion in 2016 to US$141.6 billion in 2018. The value then decreased for two consecutive years, reaching US$126.3 billion in 2019 and US$103.2 billion in 2020.

Raw materials and supporting materials are raw materials used in production activities. These products are usually imported by industries because the raw materials are not available domestically.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) previously urged the Ministry of Trade to encourage the public to dislike imported products. Meanwhile, he wants the slogan "Love Domestic Products" to continue to be promoted. This is intended to make Indonesian consumers loyal to domestic products.
