Indonesia's Oil and Gas Trade Deficit Balloons by 429.9% in August 2019

Indonesia's oil and gas (O&G) trade deficit ballooned by 429.9% to US$755.1 million in August 2019, compared to US$142.5 million the previous month. The Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) reported that O&G exports fell by 45.5% to US$875.4 million from US$1.6 billion the previous month. Meanwhile, O&G imports in August 2019 amounted to US$1.6 billion, down 6.7% from US$1.7 billion in July 2019.

The decline in O&G exports is evident in the oil processing and mining components. Oil processing exports totaled US$164.1 million, down 57.29% compared to US$384.2 million in July 2019. Meanwhile, mining exports decreased by 41.77%, from US$1.2 billion to US$711.2 million.

Specifically, in the mining sector, crude oil exports fell by 21.21%, from US$181.1 million to US$142.6 million. Gas exports decreased by 45.35%, from US$1 billion to US$568.6 million.

O&G imports also decreased across all components. Crude oil imports fell by 5.7% to US$457.9 million from US$485.6 million in July 2019. Processed oil imports decreased by 6.31%, from US$1.07 billion in July 2019 to US$1.003 billion. Finally, gas imports saw a decrease of 11.67%, from US$191.1 million to US$168.8 million.
