Indonesia's Export and Import Performance Sluggish in September 2021

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's exports amounted to US$20.6 billion in September 2021. This figure represents a 3.84% decrease compared to the previous month's US$21.4 billion.

The month-on-month decline in Indonesian exports affected almost all export commodities. Gas exports totaled US$559 million, down 24.86% compared to August 2021's US$744 million.

Crude oil exports amounted to US$100.1 million, a 13.32% decrease compared to August 2021's US$115.4 million. Non-oil and gas exports also decreased by 3.38%, falling from US$20.4 billion in August 2021 to US$19.7 billion in September 2021.

Meanwhile, only refined oil exports increased, rising by 32.01% from US$207.4 million in August 2021 to US$273.7 million in September 2021. Indonesia's import performance followed a similar trend. The value of Indonesian imports reached US$16.2 billion in September 2021, down 2.67% compared to August 2021's US$16.7 billion.

Crude oil imports decreased by 20.53%, falling from US$610.8 million in August 2021 to US$485.4 million. Refined oil imports also decreased by 7.96%, from US$1.1 billion in August 2021 to US$1 billion.

Non-oil and gas imports totaled US$14.4 billion in September 2021, down 1.8% from August 2021's US$14.6 billion. Only gas imports increased, rising by 9.12% from US$336.9 million in August 2021 to US$367.6 million.
