Malaysian Tourists Dominated Visits to Indonesia in October 2023

Based on a report from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia received 978,000 foreign tourist visits in October 2023. This figure represents an 8.57% month-on-month (mom) decrease.

BPS Deputy for Balance and Analysis, Moh. Edy Mahmud, explained that the decline in foreign tourist visits was due to seasonal patterns.

"The decrease in foreign tourist visits compared to the previous month is generally due to the entry into the low season, which began in September 2023," said Edy in a virtual press conference on Friday (1/12/2023).

By country of origin, Malaysia dominated the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in October 2023, with 138,600 visits, or 15.8% of the total visits.

Australian tourists were second with 129,010 visits (12.4%). Singapore followed in third place with 89,770 visits (11.5%).

BPS also noted that, based on mode of transportation, the majority of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia in October 2023 used air transport. This accounted for 83.72% of total foreign tourist visits during that period.

Other foreign tourists arrived via sea transport (13.49%), land transport (2.79%), and border crossings (13.62%).
