Top 10 Most Visited Tourist Destinations in the Riau Islands

Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), the number of foreign tourist visits (wisman) to the Riau Islands totaled 1,807 visits from January to July 2021. This figure shows a sharp decrease of 99.55% compared to January-July 2020, which recorded 405,449 visits. By country of origin, Singaporean citizens were the most numerous visitors to the Riau Islands.

Foreign tourist visits through Batam entry point from January to July 2021 totaled 1,637 visits, down 99.45% from January to July 2020, which recorded 297,309 visits. Meanwhile, through the Bintan entry point, only 155 visits were recorded from January to July 2021, down 99.76% compared to January-July 2020, which recorded 64,653 visits.

According to country of origin, the most numerous foreign tourist visits to the Riau Islands from January to July 2021 were from Singapore, totaling 216 visits, although this represents a 99.9% decrease compared to January-July 2020, which recorded 184,943 visits.

The next most numerous country of origin was Malaysia, with 96 visits from January to July 2021. This figure also decreased by 99.8% compared to January-July 2020. Then India, with 21 visits from January to July 2021, down 99.88% from January-July 2020.

Among the main countries of origin for foreign tourists in the Riau Islands, the highest decrease in visits came from China, at 99.93%. This was followed by decreases from Japan at 99.91%, Singapore and India at 99.88%, and the United States at 99.87%.
